The committee begins process of reviewing legislation for full House vote.
On Wednesday, the House Judiciary Committee began the process of reviewing a bill proposal for the House to ban assault-style weapons in America. Though an assault-style weapons ban faces slim odds in the House and even slimmer odds in the Senate, the mass shootings that have recently occurred have increased congressional focus on gun control laws.
Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler of New York began the long debate with a question regarding support for the availability of weapons often used in mass shootings. Representative Jim Jordan of Ohio replied that the majority’s proposed ban would make “millions of guns in the homes of law-abiding citizens” illegal.
